Description
After months of testing various configurations of USB drives, MicroSD cards, and SSD hard drives for DashCam and Sentry Mode, I have determined that the configuration listed below is the most reliable, most likely to “go the distance” when you need it the most, and most affordable.
Why this combo?
The MicroSD selected is optimal for constant writing of data – they are designed for digital cameras and to have high data write speeds, perfect for multi-camera recording (like DashCam and Sentry Mode).
The USB adapter allows for you to connect to the Tesla and also connect to your computer. There is a variation of this package that includes a USB adapter with a USB C connecter, should that be aligned with your needs.
What is included?
- MicroSD 3 card (your choice of 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB) U3 Class 10
- USB Card Reader (USB A or USB A/C – choose your preference)
- Pre-formatted MicroSD card in FAT32 with TeslaCam folder created. Simply plug into your Tesla and go!

How do I format the drive when I receive it from Pure Tesla?
You don’t have to! The whole idea behind this package is that your drive will come pre-formatted, ready for all TeslaCam activities (DashCam and Sentry Mode). Simply plug in the drive to your Tesla and you’re good to go (assuming you have a software version that supports DashCam and Sentry Mode).
Each drive is formatted and tested to ensure it is functioning properly. You will be sent the original packaging of all items should you need it.
**NOTE: PureTesla sells the initial Dashcam formatting service and guarantees that Dashcam will work upon arrival. Due to the various computer operating systems and Tesla software updates, we are not responsible for drives that are corrupted due to situations outside of our control. That said, we are always happy to help troubleshoot! Hardware warranty is provided through the manufacturer.
**Dashcam and Sentry Mode recording works with Tesla vehicles manufactured since August 2017. AP 2.0 Hardware is currently not fully supported (but stay tuned as that may change).

Light use (light DashCam, light Sentry Mode) – 64GB
Medium use (regular DashCam, regular Sentry Mode) – 128GB
Heavy use (frequent DashCam, always-on Sentry Mode, infrequent data offloading from drive) – 256GB

I am technologically challenged, but it worked anyway. I plugged the stick in and the dashcam icon came on. I drove the car and when I got home, I touched the icon until it turned gray instead of red, and removed the stick. Initially my PC said it could not read the stick, and it asked me if I wanted to let it fix it. I said yes. Next the PC asked what to read it on and I picked windows media. Then it opened a list if one minute segments, from the front, left and right, and I watched them. I was in a store for a while, parked, and one segment showed a woman parked next to me loading her groceries and leaving. Another car parked much closer to me and the driver almost hit my car with her door as she got out. The quality was excellent. If she had hit the car I would have had a good picture of her doing it.

Works perfectly! If you have a wireless phone charger, I recommend getting a splitter so both sides of the charger can be plugged in along with the cam drive. Jeff was great in answering questions and promptly shipping the package.
