3 Products to Stop Windows and Doors From Freezing Shut on Tesla Model 3

There have been a number of posts on Reddit lately about how the recent influx of cold weather has made windows and doors freeze shut, despite some pre-conditioning and climate control ahead of departure. Now, this is nothing new to really any car that battles winter weather, but those without frames around the windows do tend to see more instances of getting frozen shut. And, nothing is perfect – just because you use products like the ones listed below doesn't mean that you will be “frozen free,” but they certainly do help.

There are a few good options to help mitigate this winter weather issue. Of course, all should be coupled with ample pre-conditioning time from the Tesla app. This is not only good for potentially frozen doors and windows, but helps regenerative braking, and also boosts efficiency (which means greater range).

So, in no particular order, here is what I've used to make sure my doors and windows stay as operational as possible in the winter.

303 Rubber Seal Protectant and Conditioner for Weather Seals

This is a great product that is easy to apply and goes directly on the rubber seal along doors, window trim, and trunk linings. You apply it, let it dry, and the protection and water resistance lasts for 3-4 weeks. Simply re-apply in that interval for a winter of unstuck doors.

WD-40 Specialist Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant

Incredibly easy to apply and dries clear. Spray this along your rubber seals and greatly reduce your chances of a frozen shut window or door. Many also recommend using this in door handles and lock mechanisms (I haven't tested this application area, for the record). Rated for use between -100 F – 500 F (which should cover it – ha!). An inexpensive option for sure!

3M 08877 Silicone Lubricant Plus (Wet Type)

This is a user submitted option and one that I haven't tried but came recommended by several of my car-aficionado friends. This formula is rated for temperatures ranging from -28 F – 350 F. Also a spray application and can be applied on all rubber surfaces (weather stripping).
